Amanda explains why she was on a two-month hiatus from the podcast and gives an update on what has gone on in her life.

Amanda starts off the episode on what happened before taking a two-month break from the podcast. She mentioned about going to the 1st annual Pride on the Port in San Pedro to celebrate her friend Nick’s birthday. Less than two weeks later, the same day that Amanda started a new job, she received a call that Nick had passed away in his sleep the night before. This was very devastating for her. It was difficult for Amanda to process this loss and so she took time off from her new job. She has known Nick for a very long time, and he’s been a huge part of her life. It’s been really challenging for her to talk about this and she admits it’s not going to be easy.
Nick had found Amanda her new job in Palos Verdes, which made her commute a lot less strenuous and much closer to her friends. As for the cause of his death, Amanda said that no one is sure. Nick had Type I Diabetes, which he managed very well his whole life. Despite this disease, Nick was happy and pushed through, even when times were tough. He had a “work hard, play hard” mindset and was always about good vibes.
What Amanda Has Learned

She gives a recap on what has gone on during her hiatus such as spending 4th of July helping Nick's roommate move out of their apartment and dealing with fireworks after suffering a personal loss. She then goes into activities that caused local excitement such as the filming of an upcoming HBO series, Perry Mason, which took place in downtown San Pedro on 6th & 7th Streets. Amanda also talked about going to the grand re-opening of Sirens Java & Tea as well as a new bakery called Colossus Bread + Pastry. This is their second location and they are next to the Chori-Man. Also, the San Pedro Heritage Museum commissioned their first work of art: A Statue of Charles Bukowski, which is set to be complete for his 100th birthday on August 16, 2020.
One thing Amanda wanted to clarify is that she is not leaving the podcast and will continue with Hello San Pedro. She appreciates all the support and condolences from everyone and excited to bring new interviews for season 2 very soon.
